WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) — Purdue coach Matt Painter has hired Micah Shrewsberry to be his new assistant.

Shrewsberry joins the Boilermakers after spending four seasons on Butler’s staff.

Shrewsberry started his coaching career as a graduate assistant at the University of Indianapolis in 1999, then coached at Wabash, DePauw and Marshall before taking over as head coach at Indiana-South Bend.

In 2007, he became Butler’s director of basketball of operations in 2007. The next season, he was promoted to assistant coach and was part of the staff that led Butler to back-to-back national championship games.

Butler coach Brad Stevens has been lobbying for his assistants to get bigger opportunities.
