TORONTO (AP) — Yankees right-hander Phil Hughes felt good after throwing a 30-pitch bullpen session before Wednesday’s game, his first time on the mound since going on the disabled list because of what the team called a “dead arm.”
Hughes was put on the 15-day DL last Friday. He had been playing long toss but had not thrown off the mound since giving up five runs over 4 1-3 innings April 14 against Baltimore.
He’s scheduled to throw another bullpen session Friday, and said he might rest between 15-pitch sets to simulate game conditions and see how his arm responds.
There is no timetable for his return.
Bartolo Colon is taking Hughes’ spot in the rotation, and was scheduled to face the Blue Jays on Wednesday, his first start of the season.
