DENVER (AP) — San Francisco third baseman Pablo Sandoval has been scratched from the Giants’ starting lineup against Colorado after straining his right triceps during batting practice.

Sandoval was replaced by Mark DeRosa in Wednesday’s starting lineup. The Giants said Sandoval was day to day.

Sandoval has homered in four of his last six games and has five this season, tying Pat Burrell for the team lead. Sandoval is batting .328 with 13 RBIs.

San Francisco activated outfielder Cody Ross from the 15-day disabled list. Ross, who was in the starting lineup as the Giants’ right fielder for the series finale against the Rockies, missed the first 17 games after straining his right calf during the final week of spring training.

Infielder Brandon Belt was optioned to Triple-A Fresno. Belt, who turned 23 on Wednesday, hit .192 (10 for 52) with one homer and four RBIs in 17 games.
