ISLAMABAD (AP) — Pakistani intelligence officials say the death toll from a U.S. missile strike along the Afghan border has jumped to at least 22.

The strike comes a day after Pakistan’s army chief denounced such attacks as counterproductive, amid especially tense U.S.-Pakistan relations.

The two officials said the attack early Friday targeted a home in the Spinwam village of North Waziristan tribal region.

They say some civilians were believed to be among the dead. Information from that region is difficult to verify independently because access is restricted.

North Waziristan is considered a base for Taliban who target Western forces in Afghanistan.

The two officials spoke on condition on anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to media to the media.
