Published: April 21, 2011, 12:00am

Clark County residents can safely dispose of unwanted medications for no charge later this month.

A collection event is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 30 at the Fisher’s Landing Transit Center, 3510 S.E. 164th Ave. The event is part of the national Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

The local event is sponsored by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, Clark County Sheriff’s Office and Clark County Environmental Services in partnership with C-Tran and PREVENT! The Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition of Clark County.

County residents also have ongoing opportunities to safely dispose of unwanted medications at numerous collection sites.

Some prescription medications such as painkillers and tranquilizers are regulated by the Controlled Substances Act. They can be dropped off at the Clark County Sheriff’s Office and several police departments.

Other prescriptions can be taken to certain pharmacies.

For a complete listing of participating police departments and pharmacies and their collection hours, visit http://www.RecyclingA-Z.com and click on “medicines,” or call Clark County Environmental Services at 360-397-2121, ext. 4352.
