Eugene OR officer wounded while chasing motorist

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — Eugene police say a motorcycle officer was shot and wounded Friday while chasing a fleeing motorist into nearby Springfield.

The Register-Guard says the officer was taken to a local hospital. There was no immediate word on his condition.

Police finally stopped a female motorist. The newspaper says a standoff involving a SWAT team ended shortly after 7:30 p.m.

Police say the officer initially tried to stop the vehicle but the driver fled and the officer gave chase. The shooting happened about 4:30 p.m. near the intersection of Highway 126 and 52nd Street. Police say the officer did not fire.

Additional details were not immediately available.
