CARSON, Calif. (AP) — Landon Donovan scored his first two goals of the season and added an assist to help the Los Angeles Galaxy beat the Portland Timbers 3-0 on Saturday night in Major League Soccer.

Donovan returned to the lineup following a three-game absence because of a knee injury.

Chad Barrett had a goal and an assist for Los Angeles. The Galaxy (4-1-3) have won two straight and are unbeaten in their last five games.

The Galaxy scored twice in the first 8 minutes. Donovan fed Barrett in the fourth minute, then converted a penalty kick moments later. Donovan finished a header from close range in the second half.

The Timbers (2-3-1) snapped a two-game winning streak and remain winless in four road games.
