SALEM, Ore. (AP) — An Oregon State Penitentiary spokeswoman says the Salem prison remains on lockdown after a weekend fight involving more than 80 inmates in the recreation building and recreation yard.

Spokeswoman Michelle Whitney Dodson said Monday that staffers fired one warning shot and used chemical spray to defuse Sunday’s fight. She says 81 inmates have been placed in segregation. Some prisoners and staff received minor injuries. The fight remains under investigation.

Dodson says the prison will be on modified lockdown Tuesday, a day scheduled for inmate weddings. She says inmates can get married twice a year at the prison — once in April and once in October. Guest activities other than weddings are canceled for Tuesday.

An April 13 fight at the penitentiary also left some inmates with minor injuries and the facility in a lockdown.
