MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) — A state study says that state workers in Oregon earn less than their counterparts in the private sector.
The Mail Tribune reports that the Oregon Department of Administrative Services study shows state workers earn almost 3 percent less on average.
The study comparing state workers in union-covered jobs with private sector jobs was part of a lengthy process by the department and representatives from the Service Employees International Union.
The report found that Oregon public workers made almost 12 percent more than comparable salaries and benefits in four surrounding states — but about 10 percent less than their counterparts in cities and counties within Oregon.
