KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — Six NATO service members are dead after an Afghan military pilot opened fire on the foreign troops following a dispute at the airport in Kabul.

NATO did not disclose the nationalities of the troops killed pending notification of their families.

It was the latest in a spate of deadly incidents that have occurred inside government or military installations, a favorite target of Taliban insurgents.

The Taliban claimed responsiblity for the shooting, but the Afghan Defense Ministry says the shooter was an Afghan officer who has been a military pilot for 20 years.

Since March 2009, the coalition has recorded 21 incidents where a member of the Afghan security forces or someone wearing a uniform used by them attacked coalition forces, killing a total of 42.
