Letter: Trail of litter is discouraging

Regarding Tony DeLucco’s April 22 letter, “Restore beauty of Blandford Drive,” my husband and I couldn’t agree more. It’s terrible how this beautiful canyon gets littered up.

The writer hadn’t considered one of the reasons for the litter — the recycle trucks. I wouldn’t have thought of it myself if I hadn’t followed it one day about a year ago when tiny pieces of recycle paper were flying out the top of that truck all the way down the canyon. I called Waste Connections about it but nothing seemed to change. Afterward, there were still several instances of tiny paper litter scattered around.

About a month ago, when we saw the real estate brochure litter, my husband called again and talked to a supervisor. He said drivers should be using a push down blade that helps keep the stuff in the truck. He said he would talk to the drivers so we should see a “vast improvement.” Let’s hope so.

The beer bottles are another issue. Broken glass is hazardous to the numerous bicyclists who use this main corridor.

We have been helping out with the ivy pulls to try and keep this canyon in a more natural state. It certainly is discouraging to see all the litter.
