WASHINGTON (AP) — New York Mets pitcher Mike Pelfrey says he lost 11 pounds in recent days while sick but wants to make his next scheduled start Friday against the Phillies.
Pelfrey threw a bullpen session Wednesday and said he “felt fine.”
“I’m just going to get better the next two days,” he said. “I don’t think it’s going to get any worse. I’ll be ready to go on Friday.”
Just in case Pelfrey isn’t, Mets manager Terry Collins wants Dillon Gee prepared to start instead.
Collins said Pelfrey — 1-2 with a 7.23 ERA — had a “flu bug.” Collins says he’s going to make sure Pelfrey is OK before starting him.
Pelfrey says he’s only been eating one meal a day since Sunday.
