HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Connecticut’s governor and legislature took time off from debating the state’s budget to cheer UConn’s major sports teams.

The school became the first to send a football team to a BCS bowl game and both its basketball programs to the Final Four in the same academic year. All three were honored at the Capitol Wednesday, with the biggest cheers for the national champion men’s basketball squad.

Lawmakers in the House even attempted the wave.

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy teased basketball guard Shabazz Napier, who knocked over a small crystal statue of a harp in his office, and took a political ribbing from football wideout Kashif Moore, who wanted the governor to lower gas prices, at least in Storrs.
