CLEVELAND (AP) — Travis Hafner has been scratched from the Cleveland Indians’ lineup against the Kansas City Royals because of inflammation in his right ankle.

Hafner was in manager Manny Acta’s original lineup Thursday night and was on the field for batting practice.

Hafner is off to a good start this season after battling a right shoulder injury for three years. He is hitting .342 with four home runs and 11 RBIs in 21 games.

Shelley Duncan replaced Hafner at first base for the Indians, who were seeking a three-game series sweep and their 10th consecutive home win.
