INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) — El Martillo rallied strongly in the final sixteenth of a mile and edged Don Tito by a half-length Friday in the $60,000 optional claimer at Hollywood Park.
Ridden by Martin Garcia, El Martillo covered 7 furlongs on the synthetic Cushion Track in 1:23.30 and paid $11.40, $4 and $2.40 as the 9-2 choice in a field of five.
Don Tito returned $3 and $2.10, and Bet On Victor paid $2.20 to show.
The victory, El Martillo’s fifth in 24 starts, increased his winnings to $217,700.
