FOREST GROVE, Ore. (AP) — The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality has fined a Forest Grove electronics recycler about $20,000 for hazardous waste storage and other violations.

State officials said Goldstar Enterprise Inc. runs a facility that was doing business as MIC Total Recycle and is now operating as MIC Recytech USA.

The facility operates under a state permit that allows it to shred, grind or break cathode ray tube glass — the kind used in old TVs or computer monitors — as long as it’s done inside a building and all shredded waste material is contained in closed, labeled and leak-proof containers.

The facility is also allowed to break down computers and shred hard drives.

DEQ officials said Goldstar wasn’t meeting permit requirements. It has until May 9 to appeal.
