KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. (AP) — AAA of Oregon and Idaho says it is responding to more emergency calls from people who have run out of gas.

The Herald and News in Klamath Falls reports that more drivers are likely to push their tanks to the limit with the price of regular gas inching toward $4 a gallon in the Klamath Basin.

AAA spokesman Brian Dalton says the calls typically increase when gas prices go up. He says the automobile organization also saw it in 2008, when people were trying to get every cent out of their gas tank.

Oregon Department of Transportation officials say many motorists mistakenly call ODOT when they run out of gas, and the agency usually doesn’t respond to those calls.
