DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Pakistan (AP) — Intelligence officials say a roadside bomb has hit a vehicle carrying Pakistani soldiers near the Afghan border, killing two of them.
The officials say the soldiers were patrolling near Ladha town in the South Waziristan tribal area on Tuesday when the attack occurred. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to talk to the media.
South Waziristan was the main sanctuary for the Pakistani Taliban before the army launched a large ground offensive in 2009. Thousands of soldiers are still based in the area, and violence still occurs frequently.
