CARLSBAD, Calif. (AP) — No. 6 seed Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia has withdrawn from the Mercury Insurance Open tournament Tuesday with a left abdominal muscle strain.
Cibulkova, 22, also withdrew from last week’s Bank of the West Classic at Stanford before her semifinal match against Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland with the same injury.
“I was really hoping that it would heal fast and I would be able to play,” Cibulkova said in a statement issued by the WTA. “Unfortunately, this injury is still a problem and I have to withdraw.”
Cibulkova, ranked No. 22 in the world, threw out the first pitch at Petco Park before Monday night’s game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres.
