PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A rescue was under way for a Portland woman in the Mount Hood wilderness after she was spotted by an Oregon Army National Guard helicopter crew.

The Oregonian reported (http://bit.ly/oN5rQP ) that 28-year-old Pamela Salant was spotted Tuesday sitting on a log in Lindsey Creek in a rugged area of the wilderness.

Hood River County Sheriff Joe Wampler said Salant waved at the helicopter crew and a medivac helicopter was dispatched from Salem to take her to a Portland hospital.

The spot where Salant was found is about a mile and a half north of the campground where she went missing.

Rescuers began searching Sunday for Salant, who disappeared Saturday after she and her boyfriend separated to find a camping spot near Bear Lake, at the base of Mount Defiance.
