Pedestrian killed on Highway 99 in Hazel Dell

HAZEL DELL, Wash. (AP) — The Clark County sheriff’s office says a man who was struck by a vehicle and killed while trying to cross Highway 99 in Hazel Dell had stepped off a curb well outside a crosswalk.

The driver said he did not see the pedestrian until too late. It happened in a 40 mph zone.

The 51-year-old man was dead at the scene about 5:30 a.m. Tuesday when a fire department emergency crew arrived.
