EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — A 22-year-old soldier who formerly attended North Eugene High School has been killed during a firefight in Afghanistan. Pfc. Brice Scott’s family tells The Register-Guard (http://bit.ly/pnaak3) that Scott was killed Sunday.

His family says he was a crack shot who continued a family tradition of military service.

Stationed at Fort Riley in Kansas, Scott was a member of the Fourth Cavalry Regiment. He was on his first tour of duty near Kandahar.

The Defense Department had not announced his death as of late Monday.
