STANFORD, Calif. (AP) — Missy Franklin won the 100-meter backstroke at the U.S. national championships with the fifth-fastest time in the world this year.

The 16-year-old phenom touched in 59.18 seconds to win her first national title Wednesday, two days after returning from the world championships in Shanghai.

Rachel Bootsma was second at 59.65, joining Franklin as the only two women under 1 minute.

Ryan Lochte, who won five golds in Shanghai, was to swim the men’s 100 back later.
