CARLSBAD, Calif. (AP) — Maria Kirilenko has withdrawn from the Mercury Insurance Open because of a left hip injury.

The 11th-seeded Russian, ranked No. 26 in the world, looked sharp in a 6-3, 6-2 win over Rebecca Marino on Tuesday in the first round. Kirilenko sought treatment after the first set and in her post-match press conference, she said it was for a “pain” in her left leg.

She became the second player to withdraw after No. 6 seed Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia pulled out with a left abdominal strain.

Three players withdrew due to injuries before the tournament began, including two-time defending U.S. Open champion and No. 2-ranked Kim Clijsters of Belgium, and Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic.
