Man says missing Ore. woman looking for campsite

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The boyfriend of a Portland woman missing in the Mount Hood wilderness in Oregon says they had separated to hike around the lake for to look for campsites when she disappeared.

KGW-TV reported Tuesday (http://bit.ly/oy3vMx ) that Aric Essig says 28-year-old Pamela Salant was went missing as they searched for a campsite near Bear Lake last Sunday.

Essig told Hood River sheriff’s deputies the two dropped their gear at a campsite around noon Saturday and got separated at the lake in search of a better overnight spot.

But KGW reported that Essig told Salant’s employer he had a conversation with Salant that “disgruntled” her and the two decided to walk in opposite directions for a little time to cool off.

Deputies said Salant had no supplies or a phone with her.
