KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. (AP) — A Southern Oregon woman has been sentenced to 10 years, the minimum, for a drunken driving crash that killed a couple.

The Klamath Falls Herald and News reports that Judge Rodger Isaacson handed down the sentence Tuesday. He said 23-year-old Carrie Ames will get credit for the time she’s spent in jail, nearly a year.

Ames pleaded no contest to manslaughter, assault and drunken driving charges.

The judge said Ames acted with extreme indifference, but her lack of a criminal record and her age were factors in his decision. The prosecution sought a 20-year sentence.

A daughter of Don and Donna Barton of Dorris called the sentence a slap in the face. The Bartons were killed and their great-grandson was injured in the September crash.
