PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Pittsburgh Pirates activated catcher Ryan Doumit from the 60-day disabled list prior to Wednesday night’s game against the Chicago Cubs.
Doumit had been on the disabled list since suffering a severely sprained left ankle on May 29 in a home plate collision during a game at Chicago.
Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said Doumit and Michael McKenry will share time behind the plate.
The Pirates optioned catcher Eric Fryer to Triple-A Indianapolis to make room on the roster for Doumit.
The Pirates also signed their seventh-round pick in this year’s draft, Jake Burnette, a right-hander out of Buford (Ga.) High School.
