C-Tran will host nine open house meetings this month and in September to discuss a proposed sales tax increase on the Nov. 8 ballot.

Residents can learn more about Proposition 1 from Aug. 30 to Sept. 29 at the transit agency meetings. C-Tran is asking voters to increase the local sales tax by 0.2 percent to pay for preserving basic bus service in Clark County. The tax increase would be an extra 2 cents on every $10 purchase for consumers. C-Tran officials have said the tax is needed to prevent cutting bus service by about 35 percent.

Opponents have said taxpayers can ill afford the extra tax and questioned the efficiency of C-Tran’s existing operation.

The first open house is scheduled for 6 p.m. Aug. 30 in La Center City Hall, 214 E. Fourth St. At 6 p.m. Sept. 1, the session with be in the Battle Ground Community Center, 912 E. Main St., and the first Vancouver-area forum is scheduled for 6 p.m. Sept. 6 at Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center, 2211 N.E. 139th St.
