MIAMI (AP) — St. Louis Cardinals Third baseman David Freese has left Thursday night’s game at Florida after being hit in the helmet by a pitch.

Freese collapsed to the dirt face first when he was hit just above the bill of the helmet by an 84-mph breaking pitch from Clay Hensley in the third inning. A trainer rushed to the aid of Freese, who rose to one knee after about a minute, then stood and slowly walked off the field.

Freese earned an RBI because he was hit on a 3-2 pitch with the bases loaded.
