SALEM, Ore. (AP) — Gov. John Kitzhaber says he will not veto any more bills this year.
The Oregon Democrat who once set a veto record has turned back just one bill since taking office in January. And he said Thursday he will sign all other measures that were passed by the Legislature.
Republicans dubbed Kitzhaber “Dr. No” during his first two terms from 1995 to 2003, when he vetoed more than 200 measures passed by the Legislature, at the time controlled by the GOP.
Kitzhaber’s lone veto this year blocked a measure that would have prohibited floral order facilitators from charging a fee for individual orders. The governor said the measure violates the U.S. Constitution and also interferes with private contracts.
