O’Hern’s 7-under 65 leads Reno-Tahoe Open

RENO,Nev. (AP) — Australian Nick O’Hern shot a bogey-free 65 to take a one-stroke lead over Chris Riley in the first round of the Reno-Tahoe Open.

Riley had one bogey in his round of 66 on Thursday at Montreux Golf & Country Club. The former UNLV star is one of seven past champions playing in the 13th year of the event on the 7,472-yard mountain course designed by Jack Nicklaus.

Will MacKenzie, the 2006 champ, was another stroke back at 67 tied for third with Blake Adams and Briny Baird. 2007 winner Steve Flesch shot 68.

Defending champ Matt Bettencourt was 2-under through 6 before a rib injury forced his withdrawal.

Among other notables, Justin Leonard and Scott McCarron shot 71, Jose Maria Olazabal had 72, John Daly had 74 and David Duvall was at 78.
