AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — The Texas Longhorns have reported for the 2011 season and learned they will be without senior wide receiver Malcolm Williams, who left the team for personal reasons.

Williams met with coach Mack Brown on Thursday morning to make his decision and his departure further depletes Texas’ receiving corps. Marquise Goodwin, the NCAA long jump champion, will skip football to concentrate on the track world championships later this year and preparing for a chance to qualify for the 2012 Olympics.

Longhorns players say they are ready to leave behind their 5-7 finish in 2010. Senior safety Blake Gideon says Texas has a lot to prove if they expect to regain the respect of their opponents in the Big 12.

Texas begins the season Sept. 3 against Rice.
