What’s the buzz from the world of sports? Here are some items that will have people talking:

This isn’t the way Darius Miles wanted to cement his legacy.
The former Trail Blazers forward had already endured a bust of a career, was a cornerstone of the “Jail Blazers” era in which he was suspended for violating the league’s substance abuse policy, and had spewed venomous remarks at former Portland head coach Maurice Cheeks.
But when he was arrested Wednesday at Lambert-St. Louis International Airport for carrying a loaded gun, well, that basically put all his previous indiscretions to shame.
Miles was the third overall pick in the 2000 draft, becoming the highest-drafted player to come out of high school at the time. That was essentially the pinnacle of his career.
Since then, a bevy of stupid, malicious and dangerous choices have defined his image.
The hope is that this latest misadventure will provide Miles with a necessary jolt of get-your-life-together … but with some guys, it just doesn’t seem likely.

Tiger Woods returned to action Thursday, posting a 2-under-par 68 at the Bridgestone Invitational on the Firestone Country Club South Course, putting him in a tie for 18th place. More people than not have dismissed Tiger’s chances of passing Jack Nicklaus on the all-time majors won list due to his swing makeover and marriage collapse.
Not so fast.
Woods has undergone changes before, and while this might not be a great testament to his character — he has shown the ability to block out just about any distractions. This likely includes the demise of his personal life.
Nicklaus won his final major at the age of 46. If Woods wins 1 out every 9 majors by the time he turns 46, he will have passed Jack. But anyone who’s followed Woods throughout his career, knows he’s capable of catching the Golden Bear by 2013.
