WATERVILLE, Ore. (AP) — A pilot has escaped injury after his biplane flipped in the McKenzie River in Oregon after making an emergency landing.
The Register-Guard reported Sunday (http://bit.ly/pjM6tB ) that 65-year-old John Proctor was flying a biplane equipped with floats when he landed on the river Saturday morning.
He was headed for Detroit Lake but had to look for an alternate landing site because of fog. He landed in the river but one of the pontoon floats struck submerged debris. The plane then overturned.
Lane County Sheriff’s office Capt. Bill Thompson said the plane was getting low on fuel when Proctor decided to land in the river and wait for the weather to improve.
