Tammy Koivisto, a Battle Ground woman who is skilled at pinching pennies, will teach an evening class called “Cheap is Chic! How to Stretch a Dollar!” The class is offered in conjunction with Battle Ground Community Education, a department of Battle Ground Public Schools.

Koivisto, who said she’s never had much money and has learned to cope, plans to discuss rebates, negotiating, bartering, coupons, salvage food shopping, dented overstock, consignments, comparison shopping and how to get out of debt.

Koivisto was featured in The Columbian in January as “a friendly, talkative woman with a talent for seeing the bright side.”

“I’m lucky to have food in my stomach and a roof over my head,” she said in the story. “I’m better off than some.”

The class costs $20 per person and runs from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 16 at Lewisville Middle School, 406 N.W. Fifth Ave.

Pre-registration is required. Call 360-885-6584; stop by 104 W. Main St; or visit http://bit.ly/nImU9k.
