Fire burns 3 homes on tribal land near La Conner

MOUNT VERNON, Wash. (AP) — Fire destroyed two homes and damaged a third on Swinomish Reservation land near La Conner.

The Skagit Valley Herald reports (http://bit.ly/p8nmvT ) no one was home early Monday when the fire broke out. Two are vacation homes and people were in the process of moving into the third house. Owners live in Spokane, Yakima and Lynnwood.

Firefighters from 10 Skagit County districts responded and prevented flames from spreading to three nearby homes.

Deputy fire marshal Kevin Noyes said the cause of the fire is under investigation. Damage estimated at $600,000.
