PESHAWAR, Pakistan (AP) — Authorities say a remote-controlled bomb has exploded near a police vehicle in the northwest Pakistani city of Peshawar, killing 5 people and wounding dozens. Four police officers are among the dead.

The blast occurred in the Lahori gate area of the city early Thursday. Senior police official Imtiaz Khan says the truck that was hit was carrying police constables heading to start their shift for the day.

No group has claimed responsibility for the blast.

Peshawar lies near Pakistan’s tribal areas where Taliban and al-Qaida fighters operate. The city has endured numerous bombings in recent years, many of them aimed at security forces.
