ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — The WNBA received a combined “A” grade for race and gender in an annual diversity report, marking the eighth time since 2001 it has scored that highly.
The Racial and Gender Report Card released by the University of Central Florida’s Institute for Diversity and Ethics in Sport examines major sports league’s diversity in management at league offices and at the team level, as well as for coaches and other support personnel.
Primary study author Richard Lapchick says that he is impressed that the WNBA has continued to maintain several female owners. He also points to WNBA president Laurel J. Richie becoming professional sports’ first female president of color as a major diversity stride.
