COQUILLE, Ore. (AP) — Relatives of a 34-year-old man on trial in Coos County on charges of murdering his mother and her boyfriend have testified that he was losing touch with reality in the time leading up to the shootings.
Gabriel Morris is charged with two counts of aggravated murder in the 2010 slayings of 65-year-old Robin Anstey and her boyfriend, 45-year-old Robert Kennelly in their home outside Bandon.
The World newspaper (http://bit.ly/q3By8n) reports that Jesse McCoy testified Wednesday that his brother went through some abrupt changes in his life. Morris dropped out of college, moved in with his wife’s parents, became a sheriff’s deputy in Idaho, then moved to Las Vegas and asked for a divorce, before reuniting with his wife.
McCoy says Morris began telling stories about having special powers from God.
