SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) — Favored Hessonite, one of two fillies in a field of seven 3-year-olds bred in New York, rallied to beat Freud’s Honor by a head Thursday in the $100,000 New York Stallion Stakes Cab Calloway/Statue of Liberty Division at Saratoga Race Course.

Hessonite, ridden by Ramon Dominguez, ran a mile on the inner turf course in 1:37.61. The win, her first over male opponents, was Hessonite’s third in four starts this year, all in state-bred company.

The David Donk-trained filly earned $60,000 for owners William Punk Jr. and Philip Di Leo. She returned $4.90, $3.40 and $2.40. Freud’s Honor returned $3.30 and $2.60, and Majestic Reality paid $5.60 to show.
