Nominations are being accepted for the annual Gen. George C. Marshall Public Leadership Award.
Nominees must be Clark County residents 35 or younger with a four-year college degree. Selection is based on leadership; academic achievement; public service; and potential for ongoing community leadership.
The application deadline is Aug. 25.
Marshall lived from 1936 to 1938 in the house on Officers Row that bears his name. He commanded the 5th Infantry Brigade at Vancouver Barracks.Marshall also was Army chief of staff during World War II and secretary of state from 1947 to 1949. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for the Marshall Plan, which helped rebuild the economies of Europe and the Pacific nations after the war.
The award ceremony will be Oct. 26 at the Marshall House.
The award, presented by the Fort Vancouver National Trust, features a $2,200 stipend for a trip that includes visits to the Marshall Foundation in Lexington, Va., Colonial Williamsburg, Va., and Washington, D.C. There also will be opportunities to work with community leaders and a scholarship to Leadership Clark County.
