BALTIMORE (AP) — The Baltimore Orioles have purchased the contract of right-hander Willie Eyre from Triple-A Norfolk.

The 33-year-old Eyre fills the void left by the demotion of Chris Tillman, who was optioned to Norfolk on Thursday night after giving up six runs and eight hits in 2 2-3 innings against the Chicago White Sox.

Eyre signed with the Orioles as a minor league free agent on Aug. 3. He was 5-5 with a 3.21 ERA in 42 games with Norfolk and the Sacramento River Cats, Triple-A affiliate of the Oakland A’s.

Eyre last pitched in the major leagues in 2009 with Texas.

To make room for him on the 40-day roster, the Orioles transferred Jake Arrieta (elbow) to the 60-day disabled list.
