HARRISON, N.J. (AP) — The New York Red Bulls acquired midfielder Stephane Auvray in a trade from Sporting Kansas City.

The Red Bulls traded away their second-round pick in the 2013 MLS draft.

Auvray is expected to help New York contend for the league playoffs by shoring up the Red Bulls’ midfield defense. The captain of Guadeloupe’s national team, Auvray has only made six appearances for Sporting KC this season.

He is expected to be available for coach Hans Backe in Saturday’s game against the Chicago Fire.
