JOHNS CREEK, Ga. (AP) — Two-time U.S. Open champion Retief Goosen has withdrawn from the PGA Championship with an injury.

Goosen opened with a 5-over 75 before dropping out Friday. The PGA of America didn’t reveal the nature of his injury.

J.B. Holmes (illness) and Rocco Mediate (arm injury) also withdrew before the second round — not soon enough to help alternate Paul Goydos, who sat around all day Thursday hoping to get in.

Goosen, who won his major titles in 2001 and ’04, had a tough year at the majors. He also withdrew from the British Open, missed the cut at the Masters and tied for 23rd at the U.S. Open.
