WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (AP) — Kyle Busch has won the Sprint Cup pole at Watkins Glen International.

Busch, who qualified last after posting the best time in practice, shattered the track record with a lap at 126.421 mph, depriving Richard Petty Motorsports of a front row sweep. It’s Busch’s first pole of the season and first on a road course.

AJ Allmendinger was second, just ahead of RPM teammate Marcos Ambrose. Jimmie Johnson and defending race winner Juan Pablo Montoya complete the top five.

Teammates Ryan Newman and Tony Stewart, points leader Carl Edwards, Martin Truex Jr. and Regan Smith round out the top 10.

Denny Hamlin, 11th in points, will start last after crashing during his qualifying run.

Jeff Gordon set the previous qualifying record of 124.580 mph in 2003.
