PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Oregon’s exports to China have plunged following years of runaway growth.
The exports dropped 28 percent during the first half of this year when compared to the same period last year.
The Oregonian reports (http://bit.ly/pYYXrL)that the drop is probably the result of production shifts by Intel, which drove a rapid increase in trade between Oregon and China beginning in the late 1990s.
China is Oregon’s biggest foreign customer. Despite the drop in exports there, the state’s total worldwide exports have continued growing modestly.
