ATLANTA (AP) — The Atlanta Braves have placed right-hander Tommy Hanson on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to Aug. 7, with right shoulder tendinitis.
The team activated catcher Brian McCann from the disabled list. McCann, returning from a strained left oblique, is starting in Sunday’s game against the Chicago Cubs.
The Braves also activated right-hander Scott Linebrink (lower back strain) from the 15-day disabled list and optioned right-hander Anthony Varvaro to Triple-A Gwinnett.
Hanson allowed seven runs in 3 1-3 innings in an 11-7 loss at the New York Mets on Aug. 6. An MRI on his shoulder showed no structural damage.
Right-hander Jair Jurrjens (right knee strain) is eligible to come off the disabled list Tuesday, when the Braves will need a starter to replace Hanson.
