TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Alex Rodriguez is ready for the next step in his rehabilitation program.

Rodriguez got 13 at-bats in a simulated game and did situational work at third base at the Yankees’ minor league complex Sunday. He had right knee surgery July 14.

A-Rod said the plan was for him to have an off day Monday and then play in a game Tuesday night at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The three-time AL MVP did not rule out rejoining the Yankees for a start of a series Thursday at Minnesota.

Rodriguez played in games Friday and Saturday as the designated hitter for Class-A Tampa.

On Sunday, Rodriguez faced three Yankees minor league pitchers broken down into three segments.

After the first and second hitting sessions, Rodriguez took part in extensive defensive drills.
