Letter: Basic services underfunded

The Columbian
Published: August 14, 2011, 5:00pm

For the last three weeks, the street light across from my house has been out. I contacted the city about replacing it. They were very good at getting back to me, and apologized for the delay. It turns out that we have a street light crew of only two people, who are responsible for 17,000 street lights within the city of Vancouver.

Now that I understand how short-staffed our city is, it is clear to me that there is no way we should be considering a baseball stadium at this time. The city can’t even afford the staff and resources to take care of our core essential services. Adding a new admissions fee to fund baseball when basic services are underfunded is just irresponsible.
