FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) — John Skelton says he was “clueless” when he joined the Arizona Cardinals a year ago as a fifth-round draft choice out of Fordham.

Circumstances he never expected led to him starting at quarterback the last four games of his rookie season. This year, he says he is 10 times more familiar with the offense and is comfortable as the backup to Kevin Kolb.

Starting quarterbacks often fail to make it through a season, so Skelton says he knows his coaches have confidence in his ability to step in if necessary.
